TWO SIDES
Nevertheless, when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. (2Corinthians 3:16)
The question of the day is which side of the veil are we on. God’s Word assures us that when we turn to the Lord the veil is taken away, and yet we often find ourselves standing on the wrong side of the veil. One reason for this is that we lack understanding; another is that we really like it better outside of the Holy place. If we can admit that, we may just find ourselves refusing to stand outside.
It is true that in the presence of the Lord there is pleasure forevermore, but it is also true that His presence sometimes extracts a price for that pleasure. Do not get me wrong here; everything of God was bought and paid for by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, however in our minds it may seem that it is costly to live for God. Once we see the whole picture clearly, we realize that what we thought was worth holding on to is really nothing in comparison to what we get for letting it go. I believe it was Paul who said something about those things that once seemed so important were really nothing in comparison to what God has for us.
This all relates again to the question, “Where are you?” The other day as I read about hope and how it takes us behind the veil, I was reminded of the words that said we were once without hope and without God in the world. We need to remember that if we know God and if we have turned to Him we are no longer without hope. More importantly, we need to remember that this was not a onetime act. This is something that we need to do continually. No, we do not need to do it continually as in getting saved over and over again, but turning to God does save us from those things that the enemy throws at us in an attempt to destroy us and render us useless in the Kingdom of God.
The enemy puts up veils in the midst of every trial we may face. He puts a veil over the Lord who heals when we are sick. He puts a veil over the Lord who protects when are in danger or fearful. He puts a veil over the Lord who provides when we are in want and he puts a veil over the Lord who is present when we feel alone. If we will just recognize which side of the veil we are on, we can then go boldly through it.
Once when I was driving late at night and getting very tired I had an interesting experience. I know I should have pulled over and slept but I was getting close to home and was certain I could make it. I was praying and praising and sticking my head out the window trying to stay awake; crazy I know, but in the midst of this I saw several cows on the road and went right through them. To be honest I am not certain of whether they were actually there or not, but I was suddenly very awake. At that time the Lord spoke to me that in Him more amazing things will one day be the norm as people grow in their trust in His presence and power.
Had I jerked the wheel in an attempt to avoid what I saw, I could have easily gone into the ditch and had a terrible accident, as it was there was no time to turn the wheel. I wonder how often we turn into the ditch as the enemy puts false thoughts in front us and instead of going boldly into the Lord’s presence behind the veil we end up on a destructive detour.
