TWO WEEKS
Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; (Hebrews 11:1a NLT)
It is two weeks until Christmas! Christmas is coming. When I was child, this was often the response to my desire for some toy or whatever it was. Somehow that statement pacified me. To me it was sort of like saying you will get it, but not today. Of course, in the course of the year, there were many such things and most of them were forgotten until the day drew closer. Then there were certain things that grew in importance.
Well, we have two weeks to grow the most important thing into the most important thing. Jesus is most important. Last week we discussed the idea of two minutes and the difference it would make if we thought first and then acted or if we turned to Jesus or lifted up Jesus. Two minutes does not sound like much, but a lot can happen in two minutes.
To a child, two more weeks is a lot. If on the other hand, Jesus return would be in two weeks; that would be crazy. Of course we all know that He could return today. I have to be honest and say that I do not think about that as often as I probably should.
People waited a long time for Him to come and a majority of those who were waiting missed Him. Amos told of a day when we would long for a word from the Lord. It was five hundred years after His return was prophesied that He was born. Speaking of being born; I was thinking that every child is actually like a king when they are born. Everyone waits on them, does everything they can to make them happy; think about that.
Well, we do wait for the Christmas. We know what day it will be. Do we wait for Jesus? I am not just talking about His return. I am talking more about His presence.
If we wait, He will renew our strength. That is a promise. If we wait, His mercy surrounds us. That is another promise.
The key is waiting on Him and for Him. If we get tricked into waiting on anything or anyone else, we can be greatly disappointed.
I never received everything I asked for. Sometimes my disappointed over one thing, robbed me of the joy that I could have had.
Waiting on the Lord is always good and always works. Just remember that He is the one and He is what we are waiting for. The same is true of Christmas. Remember what the day is really all about. Aren’t you glad for the two week warning? Like you didn’t know; right?
