UNDERSTANDING STANDING

...and having done all to stand. Stand. (Ephesians 6:13 & 14 NKJ)

The Bible tells us to get understanding. Recently I had an experience with God that increased my understanding of standing. It is important for us to know how to continue to stand, even when we feel that we have done everything we can do in order to stand.

I think we have all experienced times when it seemed we did everything that we knew how to do and things did not appear to be changing in our favor and in fact at times it may even appear that they are going the wrong way. It is at these times, that we must stand even stronger without wavering. Unfortunately, we all have a tendency to wobble a little when it looks this way.

Let’s get to an example. Recently I was enjoying victory over a physical attack in my body. Then all of a sudden the problem was back with a vengeance. Well, I just kept declaring my healing in the name of Jesus; I was not going to let this get the best of me. Then one day, I heard myself say to the Lord, “Lord I need some understanding here.” Before I even finished the sentence I just knew it was the wrong thing to say. And just as quick as I was done saying it, the Lord informed me that when I was standing was not the time to start seeking understanding! You may be thinking, “What is wrong with asking for understanding?” Well, think about it. Isn’t asking for understanding just a sideways way of saying, “Lord, I don’t understand?” Isn’t that the same thing as standing with your feet overhanging the deep hole of doubt?

You see, the time to get understanding is long before we make our stand. Understanding is supposed to prepare us to stand, but once we begin to stand, we are told simply to stand. We are to wrap ourselves up in the full armor of God and just stand on the truth. If there is anything we need to know God will inform us, but we must not allow ourselves to put on confusion or wander around in doubt. Holding fast to the confession of our faith is the pathway to our victory.

It was as clear as could be to me why God corrected me so quickly. If we begin to scramble for understanding, we open our minds up to every manner of rationalization and justification that the devil can throw at us. When we are standing, we need to have our minds in lock down. Our hearts must be steadfast! We must be settled on the truth of God’s word. When we are, then we are open only to the revelation that He will send. He will not confuse us, nor will He discourage us. On the other hand, the enemy is the author of both confusion and discouragement.

Just as soon as I asked the Lord to forgive me and went back to standing, He made the whole thing clear as could be and has taught me much more as I continue to stand.
