UNFAILING LOVE
Through each day the Lord pours His unfailing love upon me (Psalm 42:8)
I think it is very fitting that we look at unfailing love on Mother’s Day. Mothers will do just about anything to show their love for their children and to get the love of their children in return. Mothers may not always love as perfectly as God loves, but they are at least a picture of the limitless love of God.
Recently I felt like God asked what I thought His feelings were toward me. In turn, I posed this same question to the people gathered for our worship service. Now it is time to ask all who read this. “How do you think that God feels about you? What do you think His thoughts are concerning you?” If you have read your Bible or listened to the Word preached, you know many things that scripture says. You know He has good plans for you. You know He loved the world so much that He gave His own Son to die for you. You know what God says in His word, but what do you think His personal thoughts are when it comes to you? Most of us have a hard time imagining that He thinks anything good about us.
Now I know that there are few mothers in the world who for one reason or another do not measure up to what I am about to say, but for the most part, if you want to see how God feels about you take a look at a mother with her new born baby. Watch her as she nurses that child and holds that baby close. See the look on a mothers face when they hear their baby cry. Watch as they head for that sound to see what is the matter. Watch as a mother tries one thing after another until that child is at peace. Yes, watch when a mother is allowing all the love that God has given her for her children to flow freely, and you will see at least in part, how God feels and thinks about you.
If your mother never did all the things you wished she would have, then imagine the perfect mother, and you will see the Love of God as close as it can be revealed on this earth. Once you have imagined that, then multiply it by more than you can count and you will begin to realize how great God’s love is for you personally. Mother’s may from time to time lose patience with their children, but God never does. On a rare moment a mom may say something that discourages a child, but as a rule they are always building them up. God has promised to love and build us up forever.
Moms may be slow to forgive from time to time, but in the end their love overcomes any hurt a child may cause them. God just skips the delay time and forgives as soon as we ask. Moms love to listen to their children. They may be distracted from time to time, but mostly they will listen to just about anything that a child has to say. God is never distracted and He knows what we are going to say before we even start talking. Then even though we may be talking nonsense He just listens and listens until we begin to make sense again.
Lets do ourselves a favor and seriously consider how our heavenly Father feels about us. Better yet, ask Him. He may just tell you to look at a mother with her newborn baby. Doesn’t that feel nice and comforting? Happy Mother’s Day.
