UNRESPONSIVE
For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal living word of God. (1 Peter 1:23 NLT)
Unresponsive is not a word that we want to hear. Many years ago I arrived at the hospital where my dad was and there was a code blue going on. It turned out to be him. I just started to pray and then all the people in the room stopped to pray too, and dad began to breathe on his own. However, a few days later he went to be with the Lord. I honestly do not even know what went through my mind, if anything, when we discovered the code blue was his room. I think I just responded to the Holy Spirits first move and prayed.
I have no doubt that many who read this have had similar reports of unresponsive come around concerning friends or family. Sometimes, it is the report that we have been praying for other times is a shock and a gut punch.
This word actually came to me during a time of prayer and worship. A song spoke to my heart and I was on my feet with my hands in the air. Another song brought me to my knees with my head down and then looking up to God. The next time I was on feet and the Lord said, “If you are not responsive you are dead.” Wow! Needless to say, I am more aware than ever of the need to be responsive to the Lord and the Living word of God.
The Lord is always present, so we should always respond accordingly. There will be times when we must intentionally choose to respond even when our flesh is doing its best to resist. There will also be times when we just jump right in with what the Spirit is doing on impulse.
Scripture tells us not to quench the Spirit. I think that is sort of like choking the life out of what He is leading us to do. That is the ultimate unresponsive act.
We all respond to things differently when it comes to our lives. Just think about it; what excites you? Look at the commercials on television. They try to excite you about men in tight jeans or girls in bikinis. They show you the homes of the rich and famous and the drink that is going to make life great. And now there are even emails promising to make you rich investing in pot! How do we respond to these things? What stimulates us the most? Is it Jesus?
The bible warns about the love of money, the lust of the eyes and the flesh, and of course the pride of life. The more we respond to God, the less hold these other things will have on us. The most important thing is that we are not dead to the presence and love of God. Respond to Him and all the good things of His kingdom will be added to you.
