UNSHAKABLE
The words "Once again" clearly show us that everything that was created will be destroyed--"that is, the things that can be shaken. And only what cannot be shaken will remain. (Hebrews 12:27 ERV)
So what can be shaken and what cannot be shaken. There is a whole lot of shaking going on these days. Fear is everywhere. Financial fear, terrorist fear, climate fear…you name it, there is fear. Is the world going to end? How is it going to end? It is easy to find fear. Jesus posed the question as to whether or not He would find faith when He returned.
As usual, I do not have all the answers, but I believe the Bible is full of answers and great suggestions as to how we should handle all this. Trust God! I know that seems like such typical Christian answer, but the truth is, it is far from typical. It is often difficult to convince Christians to trust God!
So, what is shakable and what is not? God is not shakable. His plans are coming to pass. No, I do not know how the earth will end. I do not know if it will simply be a blink of an eye and the new perfect Kingdom of God appears. I do not know all about that, but I do know that God says it will happen and it will.
So what can be shaken? Everything man has made is shakable. All of our technology and wisdom and everything man has come up with are shakable, but nothing shakes God.
I believe that we should be wise with our world, but to think that God created all this without good enough filters to last until it is time for it to change is silly in my mind. I mean really, do you think God is wringing His hands because He never thought about dealing with pollution or anything else like it?
This is why God tells us to be sure and store up treasure where it cannot be shaken. In other words, make sure the things we really treasure are God things. On that note, I really don’t think that scripture was given so that it would be used to increase offerings and squeeze money out of people. If people treasure God, He can influence them concerning finances.
I am challenged today to inventory of the things I like and the things I treasure. How many things in my life are shakable? What things cause my faith to stutter? Are they things that are God or are they things that distract me from God?
Yesterday I handed my daughter over to a young man in marriage. Many people asked how I was doing. I was fine. My daughter was happy. I was happy. I watched that daughter many years ago stop breathing and her lips turn blue and then I saw Jesus stop the attack and now she is healthy and has because a wonderful wife to a great young man. How could that shake me? Still, there are many things in this life that we have come to think should shake us. God has made us unshakable! We simply need to grow into it.
Let’s all take a shake tour in our lives and ask God to help us not only to see what is shakable, but then to help us so that we will stand and keep standing. God bless you all.
