UPON ME

The spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me (Isaiah 61:1a)

The living word of God never ceases to amaze me. It reminds us, exhorts us, encourages us, and convicts us! The Word of God can and will do anything that we will allow it to do for us. At the same time, we can push it away if we prefer. The hope is that we will not.
It is so important that we hunger and thirst for our righteous and wonderful Lord. If we will, He will continually pour wonderful things into our hearts. I am sure of this and also sure that He cannot fail and I do just keep falling in love with Him over and over and over again. So right there, I threw in two reminders of what we have discussed recently and a song.
So as I read this passage of scripture, it hit me like never before. Suddenly I was reading as a personal confession. This is our personal confession. Every single person that calls upon Jesus and receives the Holy Spirit can have this for their testimony. Make it personal!
Our lives changed because the Spirit of the Sovereign Lord anointed us. We have the anointing from the Holy One and we simply need to walk in it as Jesus did.
When Jesus quoted this scripture, He concluded by telling them that the word was fulfilled on that very day. He stood before them as the Living Word of God. His confidence in that truth sustained Him right to the right hand of the father to make intercession for us.
Part of His intercession is that we will receive this truth and walk in it. The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon you! Consider that. Receive that. Be blessed by that. I have often said that the word is just words until it becomes our Word.
There are things we know of and then suddenly we know them like we did not know them before! They are encouraging and nice and then all of a sudden they take on a new life.
We have been anointed to pour out good news and comfort and freedom and blessings and we can be sure we have plenty to pour out, because we have Him pouring in!
I cannot really explain it, but there was also a surge of a sense of responsibility that accompanied the newness of this verse. The same spirit that raised Christ from the dead; that is what we all know, and God wants us to know it more and more.
This world has been messed up since the sin in the garden and we are privileged to be a time when the mess keeps growing. However, we know that when sin does much to abound, grace does much more to abound. We can expect greater things from God to overcome the increase in unrighteousness. This is why the Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon us. Breathe Him in!
