USE THE POWER
...because everyone who is a child of God has the power to win against the world. (1John 5:4)
We talk about the power of Jesus. We believe He has power. Do we use that power? God created us to do good works and good works are the works of God. We simply need to have confidence in Him.
I do not know anyone who never fell down when they were learning to walk or ride a bicycle. No one scores a touchdown every time they touch the ball or makes a basket every time they shoot. Still, they keep doing it and as they keep doing it they become more and more confident and successful. Christians need to be confident in the power God and put that power to use.
In Second Chronicles 16:9 we see that God looks all over the earth for people who are faithful to Him so He can make them strong. We do not need to wonder if God will be involved we need to know that He is waiting for us to get involved.
He can overcome our failures if we will trust him. When you read about David you see that he always obeyed and pleased the Lord except in the case of Uriah. David failed because he did not ask or listen. It took him a while, but eventually he repented and God loved that. So don’t be crushed by your failures. Turn and be forgiven and then live in the power of God.
Instead of wishing something was better, speak to it in the power of God and expect God to do His part. This not only reveals the Kingdom of God, but it defends it.
I was reading this morning about Paul when he was in jail and how he had been given the ministry of defending the Good News and it hit me that we are very much in a time when we are called not only to declare, but to defend the Good News. I had a young man tell me once that he had heard about all that God could do, but he had not seen it. When we use the power, we defend the Good News!
We are told to always be prepared to defend the hope we have. What hope do we have? Do we have hope? Do we serve a might be God or a Mighty God who is able and willing to do great things or a symbol in a building. Think about this. What do you believe God can do? What do you believe He will do?
Recently a friend wrote that He was stressed over the loss of something. I remembered Bill Johnson’s message about I want my knife back! I have used that word many times for myself and others and so this was the first thing that came to mind. I responded by saying, “Lord my friend wants his lost thing back, thank you for taking care of this” or something to that effect. The next message I received from that friend was, “The lost is found!” I am telling you God is good. Speak out with the authority that He has given you. Put His promises into play. We are the winners!
