VALUE

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? (Matthew 6:26 NKJ)

We all have some small sense of our value to God. I say small because most of us have not grasped the true value He places on us. But that is not what this is about. I want us to consider what value we place on God. You see, I have come to believe that in order to really grasp our value to Him we must first truly value Him.

If we do not place a high value on God and our relationship with Him we spend a good deal of our time in condemnation because we really do not feel like we are worth the value He places on us. So with that in mind, let’s consider how we value God.

What value is He really to us? Things we value, we pay close attention to. Insurance companies want pictures of really valuable things to prove that we have them in case they are lost or stolen. If you have expensive jewelry or some collectable that you value, you are sure to do what you need to do. I value my motor cycles, so I clean them and I cover them even in the garage. We have couple of older scooters that I am sorry to say seldom even get a washing anymore let alone a cover put on them. Why? Well there are still of value and useful, but not so much compared to things I value more. You see what we value the most we take the best care of.

So, how much do we value God? Do we take care of our relationship with Him? Do we keep that covered no matter what? Is He first all the time or only when we are desperate? Do we put Him off because we have so much confidence in our value to Him that we think we can neglect His value to us? How much do you like it when those you value neglect you?

Do you spend time letting God know that He is of great value to you? We do not show God that we value Him just by how much Bible we read or how long we pray. These are important of course, but it is the quality of the time we spend that really speaks to Him. It is the times we turn to Him each day and in the night just to let Him know how we love and appreciate Him. It is in the way we seek His consideration in all things good and bad.

Our gratitude for His goodness and our refusal to neglect Him shows how we value Him. We certainly have many things that we need to take care of in this life, but we must be convinced that with Him it will all be covered and without Him it just will not work.

I think we have all lost track of something that was valuable to us before. When we realize it we turn things upside down to try and find it because it is valuable. We ask everyone who might have seen it and at times look for someone to blame, but of course that does not help. Valuing God is an ever increasing investment. Take care of it and He will take care of you.
