WAS HE
But he was wounded and bruised for our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace; He was lashed, and we were healed! (Isaiah 53:5 TLB)
Oh, how simple the truth is. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. We all need to come to Him and simply believe. There is no need to complicate and stew over what we will accept as true; if we do not believe that the Bible is inspired and without fault, then we can decide what is right and what we like and what we do not like. But if we will take the simple approach, we will be very happy that we did!
They frequently came to Jesus asking Him to explain things. He always did. Some believed Him and they were excited, and others were not so excited. He healed people and the response was the same; a mixture of rejoicing and complaining. A woman was bent over for 18 years, and Jesus simply told her she was healed. Some were amazed and rejoiced and of course there were those that wanted to kill Him for it. For our part we have a choice. Jesus often said, “choose this day! Don’t harden your heart. Who will you serve?” (My paraphrase)
So, was Jesus wounded? Was Jesus bruised? Was Jesus lashed and beaten? Was He striped? The Bible is clear that this is exactly what was prophesied by Isaiah and what ultimately happened to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
If he was, and He was, then the results are as the Bible says. Wait, let’s answer some other simple questions. Are your sins forgiven? Have you experienced the peace of God? Have you experienced forgiveness for sins recently? We all come short of perfection on occasion!
Do we believe that God forgives, saves, gives us peace, and loves us? Do we believe that Jesus rose from the dead? I know these are obvious and that we absolutely believe almost everything in the Bible! Well, freedom comes when we just believe it all. Why am I asking such foolish questions? I am asking because these are questions, I ask myself. If these are true and I believe them it is easy to move past what seems to be more difficult to answer.
I went to the prison this week and on the way there as I worshiped the Lord, He told me that He wanted me to do the same thing at the prison. It made perfect sense. The things I had previously been pondering were removed and I knew God knew best. I was not sure how the folks would handle it, but that was up to God. It went just as He planned.
I have said all of this so that we can make something that often seems so complicated just as simple. We believe God and yet we get all tripped up about healing. I think we should have the same confidence about healing as we do about salvation! My testimony is that I was saved and did not know it! That really messed with some people and encouraged others. I did not have all the understanding, but when I understood I could see that it took place! Salvation is more amazing than healing in my way of thinking. Still, if God says I am healed I believe it! We remember His stripes and celebrate His resurrection this week. Accept the whole package. Simply believe!
