WATCH ME DADDY
This command I am giving you today is not too difficult for you, and it is not beyond your reach. (Deuteronomy (30:11)
We were born to impress God! Everyone, deep down, wants to be noticed. As children we all wanted daddy and momma to watch us. I know that God is no respecter of people, but He can be impressed!
Joshua and Caleb impressed Him when they were the only two that came back from scouting the promised land and told the people, we can take the Land. There was also the man who ran the spear through a couple that were blatantly disobeying God; extreme, but impressive!
There really is a long list of people who God pointed out for doing what He planned for them to do. So deep down we would like to impress God, but we doubt that we can! We mostly think that we do not really measure up. This causes some to just give up. We must remember that God is not a man. He does not think like us. He is not normal. Faith impresses Him!
Sometimes, children give up on getting attention for doing good and get their attention in other ways. We never lose that desire to be noticed. Even when we think that nobody cares, we want someone to care.
As I wrote in my journal, I was telling God that I desire Him, and that I wanted to impress Him. When I wrote that, I had a guilty feeling like there was something wrong with wanting to be impressive to God. My idea was that I did want to impress people; only Him! We don’t really want to impress people, but then again, we do, but then we are not really comfortable when we do impress people, but then we sort of like it too. It is a complicated state of mind.
Have you ever imagined being noticed? Like imagining people saying nice things about you. Once I heard someone talk about how broad my brother’s shoulders were and I felt bad, because mine were not as broad! He was five years older than me, but it seemed like they preferred him! Crazy the way we remember things.
I have also been to Christian conferences where people were being called out and given a word from God and I sort of wanted to be called out too, and I felt a little guilty about it. It really boils down to a desire to be chosen.
The good news is, we were chosen. Every single person has been chosen by God. Our idea of being impressive is a bit different from God’s standards.
Remember, the first will be last and last will be first. In other words, God has it figured out and we can rest in that. Daddy is watching. He sees us. He loves us. He cares about us. We are impressive in His sight. Who better to desire to impress than God. We do not need to worry about measuring and comparing by standards that we really do not comprehend. We can simply rest in the fact that He sees us. We will discover just how outstanding we are when we stand with Him in heaven!
