WE ARE BLESSED

Their descendants shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people. All who see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the posterity whom the Lord has blessed.(Isaiah 61:9 NKJ)

I have been amazed of late as I read and hear what I will call, “the battle of the blessing.” There seems to be a certain group of my brothers and sisters who think some are a little too focused on the idea of being blessed, while those who focus on the blessing are concerned about those who think otherwise. I guess if I were on the outside looking in, I would choose to be on the side of those who say that God will bless His children. After all, it is my desire to bless my children. I want to do it wisely, but all the same, I certainly would never want to cause them to suffer. If you read the above scripture in the New Living Translation, it says, “Everyone will realize that they are a people the Lord has blessed.

The fact is, that everyone who knows God is blessed already. Having been adopted through faith in Jesus Christ, we are in the family and so we are heirs of God’s kingdom. We all have the opportunity to be in the place where the blessings flow. I am not quite sure why we would want to be anywhere else. At the same time, I know that scripture guarantees that all who would live Godly lives will suffer persecution. Some have promoted this to the point of saying that if you are not suffering you must not be following God. I wonder why we can’t just all agree to love God and follow Him with all our hearts. The key is to stay connected to Him.

I recently saw a great illustration of staying connected. Our house is right next to the church, and we have a lighted sign in the front. As I went to bed the other night, I noticed that the Light was off. I assumed that someone had mistakenly managed to shut off the switch. The next morning I went to turn it on, but it would not come on. I then discovered that there was no power to the church at all. When the service man came, he could not see the problem either, until he got up on the electric pole and discovered that a wire had broken. From the ground it looked like it was still attached. What had happened was that the original wire was a little too short. That combined with the transformer getting loose and being shaken by the wind managed to break the wire. The wire however from a distance looked as though it was still connected.

You wonder what this has to do with this devotion. Well, I saw the first sign of a lack of power but figured it was nothing. Had it been raining buckets, there would have been water in the basement because the sump pump was off. At first sign of losing our connection with God we need to respond violently to get the power back on. The loss of power was a result of a lot of wind blowing and over time loosening the bolts that held the transformer. It needs to be checked occasionally. The wire was broken, but it did not look like it. Had the wire been longer it would not have broken. We want to be sure that we don’t do the minimum when it come to God. From outward appearances, we may look hooked up, but how are things inside. The winds of the world blow strong against us. Is the power flowing? If we stay alert and connected, I can see no reason why we should not expect the blessing of the Lord. Nor can I see why anyone would object to God blessing others. I did not get upset that others had power when we didn’t. Do you see what I am saying here. My prayer now is that we are never without power. That we are always hooked closely to God, and that our faith is unshakable. I pray this for the body of Christ. Then the world will see that God is good and join the family.
