WELL
"Arise, go your way, Your faith has made you well."(Luke 17:19)
As we read this passage of scripture we see that ten lepers had come to Jesus begging Him to have mercy on them. His response was to tell them to go show themselves to the priests. As they went, a miracle took place and they were cleansed. One of them got excited when he noticed that he was cleansed and turned around praising and giving glory to God. Jesus took note that only one had bothered to thank God and to that one Jesus said, “go your way, your faith has made you well.”
A couple of things strike me about this story. First, I wonder if they turned to go to the priests or turned away mad because He did not pray for them or do any great thing like they may have wanted. Can you imagine in our prayer lines today the response a person would get if someone came for prayer and they simply said go show yourself to your pastor, or to your spouse or, well you understand what I am saying. People have done that and been attacked for being insensitive. In this instance, I realize that showing yourself to the priest was one of the laws for lepers, but these guys knew they were not fit to go to the priest, that was why they came to Jesus. The scripture says that the change took place as they went.
I have found that people do not often care to be told that they need to do something. They want God to do something! Even when they already know what God wants them to do, they will try to get around God by going to one of His servants. I recently heard a great word on how important it is when we pray for people, that we make sure what God wants and not just go blindly with what people ask.
Perhaps in this case, only one of them even had enough faith to look and see if he was healed. How many times have you heard a testimony from someone who asked for prayer, and then it was a day later that they realized that God had answered. How often does God answer our prayers and we neglect to give Him glory for it.
The other thing that spoke to me was the fact that Jesus told the man that his faith had make him well. To me, being well speaks of something far larger than being healed. Wellness covers our whole life. To me, Jesus was telling him that not only was his skin better, but all of his life was going to fall into the same line.
There are times when people desire prayer for healing, and there is something else that is needed to take them beyond healing into wellness. But because that might mean forgiving someone, or obeying God in another area of life, they will resist that type of counsel. Even if they are healed at the time, it is only a symptom that will manifest over and over in the same or another way, until it is dealt with completely.
God desires that the body of Christ be well. Putting all our faith, hope, and trust in God will bring Him glory. Then we will be well.
