WHAT ABOUT OUR ENEMIES
They cried out, but there was none to save; ... but He did not answer them. (Psalm18:41 NKJ)
Be encouraged. God is on your side. It is true. We do not need to focus on our enemies. We do not need to fear. In fact we should not fear, because Jesus said, “fear not.” Even though we know these things we still get caught in the trap wondering about our enemies.
This is nothing new. Prophets of old wondered why the “wicked” seemed to do so well. But God always told them to leave it up to Him. In this psalm, David talks of how he had his enemies on the run and there was no help for them. When we put our trust in the Lord and stand on that trust, we can be sure that no weapon formed against us can prosper. Our enemies are going down.
It always good to make sure that the enemy is in fact the real enemy. What do I mean by this? Well, sometimes we are the problem. Our own fears, doubt, selfishness, or disobedience can be our worst enemies. However, once we have examined ourselves and know for certain that the enemy is not us, we can relax. God has a plan for the enemy! His plan for us is our deliverance.
In Psalm 41:11, David takes comfort in knowing that God is pleased with him. He knows this because God has not allowed his enemies to triumph over Him. We can be sure that there is no way that our enemies can triumph over us. God simply will not allow it.
Even the most feared enemy, death, loses out against God! If death and the grave cannot beat us, then nothing can. God upholds us by His strong right arm. He sets us before His face forever.
So what about the enemy? Well, the enemy knows that he cannot stand against Christ or against those who are in Christ. That is why he spends so much time attempting to keep us from resting in that knowledge. He knows that once we settle it in our hearts that no weapon formed against us can prosper, he is toast.
This is why Paul stressed that we must put on the full armor of God and stand confidently upon the truth of God’s word. He had experienced every kind of victory and deliverance that a person could experience before he finished the race and received the ultimate prize.
That same deliverance is ours today. Victory is ours in the name of Jesus. That same prize is ours at the end of the race. So let’s enjoy this race and turn our enemies over to the Lord.
