WHAT IF

Jesus replied, "I have already told you and you don't believe me. The proof is what I do in the name of my Father." (John 10:25 NLT)

What if you were God? What if the earth was yours and you could do anything and control everything? As you first consider this thought you might have some pretty big ideas, but as you settle in and really think about it you should find yourself more in awe of even the thought of such power and responsibility.

Sometimes when I pray, I will spin the globe and move my hands over the surface praying for the whole world in seconds. Each time I do this, I awed at the thought that it is just that easy for God to cover the whole galaxy and beyond. Today I said something to God concerning how amazing He is and He said, “what if you were Me?” “What would you do?” “How would you treat your children?” “How would you treat children who are not in your family?” The communication continued for some time and still things are popping into my mind.

First of all, as we considers this we need to bear in mind that God is spirit and if we were God, we would be controlled by the spirit of God. That means that we would do good and we would not be inclined to evil. That said. What would I do? Truly, what good thing would I withhold from my children? What would it be like to be the perfect father? Wouldn’t it be nice to have all the resources that you could ever imagine at your immediate disposal?

In truth, isn’t it frustration over what we cannot control or provide that causes most of the problems in our lives. If we had unlimited resources, we certainly would not quarrel about money. And isn’t money or the lack there of one of the main causes of contention in families and even in whole societies? Nations fight with nations over many things that have economics at their root. People are jealous of one another because one has more than the other.

So what does this have to do with us being God? Well consider this. If you were God and you had all wisdom and were able to fix all things, how would you feel if people would not let you do it? How would you feel if you were the definition of the word trustworthy and people would not trust you? How would you feel if you told your children that they could have anything they wanted, but instead of trusting you they spent all their time and effort trying to get things their own way and blaming you because it was not going well? What if you told your children that you would take care of their health, but instead of coming home to be healed, they stood outside blaming you for being sick?

What about other children? Wouldn’t you be generous and invite them to come to your house? Wouldn’t you do nice things for them too because you want everyone to experience your goodness and you don’t want anyone to perish? What if we would let God be God, and not only allow Him to do for us what He desires, but also to allow Him to do His perfect will through us?

I believe that everyone with the Spirit of God in them would imagine all the good things they could do if they had all that God has. The next thing to settle is that God is a lot better than we could ever think of being. So why is that we hesitate to trust Him or to believe that He is just like He says He is and that He will do just what He says He will do. If we being evil know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more will our heavenly father do for us. Freely receive so you can freely give. Lord help us all to trust you more.
