WHAT IS OUR PURPOSE

So I run with purpose. I am not just shadow boxing. (1 Corinthians 9:26)

What is our purpose? What does God want me to do? These are questions that we often hear. My response is, what is our purpose toward God?

What is the focus of our effort in our relationship with God? What produces the most effort in our lives when it comes to God?

Do we put more effort into giving or into receiving? Do we make every effort to give glory to God, or is our effort to get what we need from God?

Draw near to God. Give God the glory due His name. Worship the Lord with the spirit of Holiness. In other words, we are called to set ourselves apart to worship and glorify God.

Paul said he was running with purpose. He was not just shadow boxing. He was not beating around the bush when it came to the things of God! Our purpose is not to just be better than we were a long time ago. Our purpose is to know God, trust God, and yes even to obey God!

In order to obey God, we need to seek God. Jesus made the way for us to go into the Holy of Holies. We are not supposed to hang around on the outside. We are insiders through Christ. We have an open door that no man can shut. It is not a hidden door that we are searching for. It is a wide-open door with a large flashing welcome sign.

God is not in the business of confusing us. He is not trying to make things difficult. He does not try to trick us. The way is the same for everyone. If we seek Him and His Kingdom, all the things we wonder about and all the things we desire will be added to us.

When we do what He says, He does what He promises. In fact, He often does what He promises, before we do what He says. Remember, Christ died for us before we ever died for Him!

This makes me think of Paul’s concern that we would miss the simplicity of the message of Christ! We all know better than to complicate things. From the time we were children we have been warned to keep it simple. Of course, there are complicated things in life, but God is not one of them.

For a majority of people, God is more of an afterthought. He is reserved for emergency service only, and then only on a limited basis. I told people I would pray for them and heard the response that it is not that big of a deal. Everything about us is a big deal to God. You are a big deal.

I think our failure to understand just how big of a deal we are to God is a major obstacle when it comes to making God a big deal to us. If we think we do not really matter that much to Him, He is not going to matter much to us. Our purpose is to love God. Out of that love the rest will flow without restriction between you and God, and all that God loves. No more confusion!
