WHAT IS RIGHT
"For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard."(Acts 4:20)
It is possible to know and do what is right. I think that most Christians at one time or another have wanted to know where to find the auto pilot. I know I have! Unfortunately, God did not install one in us. Instead, He gave us the opportunity to choose what is right.
People who fly air planes must be very familiar with the instruction manuals and they are happy to do what ever it takes to be able handle any situation that might come up. This is because their lives and the lives of others depend on them doing what is right.
The same is true for the course of our lives. We not only have an instruction manual, we also have a full time instructor. The Holy Spirit is always on duty to guide us, but of course it is up to us whether we will heed his instructions or seek His guidance.
The disciples declared that they could only speak the things that they had seen and heard. Having followed Jesus and observed all that He did and all that He said, they had quite a list of things that they could say and do. They knew that what Jesus taught worked. They knew that no matter what things looked like or what others said, the Word of God was what would stand. This is all still true!
We know that they did not do everything right all the time, but they stood on what they knew was right. This is how we must be if we are going see and experience the things that God wants us to speak about.
We will not see the glory of God if we do not speak about it. We will not experience the miracles of God if we do not call for them. The disciples certainly would have had a good excuse to just do what they were told. After all, they had witnessed what was done to Jesus because He would not quit what He was doing and saying. However, they were able to over ride their fears and what seemed to make sense in the natural and to choose what was right in the sight of God. This is what we must do as well.
No matter what we see or what we hear, we must measure it according what God has said and done. As we do this, we will see and hear for ourselves. It is one thing to speak from what others have said, and quite another to speak from our own experience. The disciples had seen, heard, and experienced the truth of God’s Word, so that was all that they could speak.
God gives us the opportunity to do the same thing. Just like a pilot, the more we practice the more experienced we will become. This is something that God has promised to everyone who believes. Remember, all things are possible if we will only believe.
