WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL
"Because you did not trust me enough to demonstrate my holiness to the people of Israel, you will not lead them into the land I am giving them!"(Numbers 20:12 NLT)
When we spoke of how we measure God’s ability, we were considering His ability to do what He says. It forced us to look at whether or not we believe God is who He says He is. It requires us to decide if He really did create the heavens and the earth and whether or not He is still the same yesterday today and forever. Ultimately we must agree that God cannot lie, or we must take the side of those who intentionally or not flat out call God a liar.
It is true. If we say we believe in God and still insist that He is not like He was in the beginning when He created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them, then we are saying that He lied when He said that He does not change. If we say that any part of the Word of the Lord has diminished in power or disappeared all together, then we are calling God a liar. If we feel even a little bit this way about anything concerning God, then we are not going to readily trust Him for much.
I agree that this all sounds pretty narrow minded, but the quicker we face these facts, the quicker we will be to adjust our thinking and enter into the life that God has promised us. It is a life of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. It is a life where the yoke is broke, the curse is crushed, and the blessing rushes to overtake us.
Why do I keep speaking of God’s blessing when the world is in such a mess? I do this because the world needs the Lord. The world needs to see the Lord at work. The world needs to know that they have been deceived into believing that God is insignificant and that they can do without Him. Folks; this is a big deal.
In this passage of scripture, God has spoken to Moses in response to the complaints of the people and told him to go and speak to a rock and when he did, God would give the people the water. You may remember that this was the second time the people made such a complaint and that the last time Moses used his stick to hit the rock before the water gushed out. Well for some reason, Moses decided to hit the rock twice this time instead of speaking to it like God said. Still, God being faithful as always, in spite of Moses error, gave them water. However, God told Moses that since he did not trust Him enough to do what He said; he and Aaron would not be allowed to lead them into the land that God was giving them.
Moses robbed God of glory when he failed to trust. So is it a big deal to trust God? Is it a big deal to strive to get it right? Is it alright to take the will and way of God lightly? I guess the answer to these questions depends on what we really want. Moses and Aaron had a pretty good life. They did some pretty great things. They also missed a lot. What are we giving up? What more are we willing to give up. How big of a deal is it?
