WHAT IS THE LORD DOING

He did this so that all the nations of the earth might know the power of the Lord, and that you might fear the Lord your God forever. (Joshua 4:24 NLT)

I know that God has done all that He should every need to do and more to reveal Himself to the world. I know that we have His written word, which is made the Living Word by the revelation of the Holy Spirit. I also know that Jesus told us that His Father never stops working. So when I read this scripture my first thought was, “what will you do now Lord?”

One day, the Lord is going to come swiftly to judge the world, but until then His mission is to save the world. The devil is trying to destroy as many as he can and take them to hell, while God is busy drawing them to eternity with Him. It is a battle and everyone is involved in it whether we want to be or not. Christians are supposed to be battling for lost souls, while many who are lost are deceived into ignoring the fact that there is a battle. Truly it is a war.

Many people are convinced that God is going to punish the world into submission, but that sounds more like the devils tactics to me. Did you notice that this verse says that God did a great thing for Israel so that all the nations of the earth might know His power and so that Israel might fear the Lord their God forever? Did you get that? He did powerful things for His people to reveal His power to the world and so that they would love honor and respect Him forever.

When I looked at the verse from this perspective it caused me to change my question. Instead of asking God what He would do now, I felt that I needed to look to see what He is doing. After all, God is always doing His thing. He does way more that we generally take notice of. This means that we need to be aware of what He is doing and be quick to declare it to a world that needs to know His power.

We know from reading God’s Word, that He did lots and lots of things for Israel. We also know that the people around them often paid more attention to what God was doing than they did. The folks around them could often tell that Israel had lost favor with God, before Israel noticed. They would neglect God and become open to attack and all beaten up and then finally they would cry out to God and another generation would begin to serve the Lord.

Let’s face it folks, things have not changed all that much. When we cease to be aware of all that God is doing in our lives we become complacent in our faith. This does not mean that God is no longer doing anything; we just sort of quit caring. This leaves us wide open for destruction. This also robs those around us from seeing the power of God. However, the more we acknowledge and give God glory, the more He does to reveal Himself. This gives those outside the kingdom of God a glimpse of His glory and it keeps us on top of our game so to speak.

So what is God doing? What is He doing right next to you? What is he showing you around the world? Who or what is He putting on your heart? Don’t forget that God has a plan and it is a good plan. His plans for you are good, which in turn are intended to benefit others. We can be sure God is doing His part; the question is whether or not we are doing ours. So as God says, “be alert.” “Always be prepared to defend the hope that you are displaying and bring glory to God.”(My paraphrase 1 Peter 3:15.)
