WHAT IS YOUR SONG

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him. (Psalm 28:7 NKJV)

What song do we sing? Do we make a sweet sounding melody unto the Lord? I am not talking just musically here, but we can use music to help to paint this picture. The Lord is actually pretty big on tune, tone, and volume. He likes us to shout unto Him with a voice of triumph. He also likes us to make sweet melodies in our hearts. He likes instruments and He has given us a voice with which to praise Him. In fact, we have been created as instruments of worship. So with all of this in mind, let us consider the song we sing.

I have always liked music and always loved to sing. In fact, I was chasing the dream of being an entertainer when I met Jesus. I realize now that I was meant to be a worshipper. When it comes to music, it is always important to keep in tune. If a person is not aware of tune, things can get pretty out of hand. There are people with perfect pitch who can hear a note and tell you what it is. I do not have perfect pitch, but I can easily hear when something is out of tune and will always do my best to fix it at the first opportunity. As I thought about this, I realized that I should be just as attentive to the tune of my song unto the Lord. Do I declare that He is my strength and that I am helped or do I get out of tune and sound like a different song? Even people who do not have a great ear for music can tell when two different songs are playing at the same time. It may be possible for two songs to blend and sound pleasing, but different tunes and different keys just create a mess. The same is true if we deliver two different messages about God.

Tone is also important in music. An instruments tone is controlled by attitude or how your lips or tongue are positioned. Attitude also affects the tone of our song unto the Lord. It affects the melody in our heart and the sound that comes out in our speech. So it is good to keep our tone or our attitude in proper perspective. Is God our shield? Do we trust in Him? Are we greatly rejoicing? What is coming out for the Lord and the rest of the world to see? When it comes to drums, the angle and the force of the attack will determine the tone and the sound, so it is important to pay attention to the tone we strike.

Needless to say, this could go on and on, and I encourage you to take time to consider any work that you may need to do on the song you sing and play. As for me, I find this to be a good reminder that I need to pay closer attention to the song of my faith. I am particular about tune and tone in music; I should be even more attentive to the tune and tone of my walk with God. I never want to sing out of tune, so why should I be comfortable if the tune and tone of my faith is off?

I know that God is faithful and that He has brought this to my mind for my benefit. I pray that you can find some benefit in it as well. Let us all make a song that is pleasing to the Lord. We can trust Him. He is our strength and our shield. When we call, we are helped. Yes our hearts should greatly rejoice and we will praise Him with our song.
