WHAT REALLY MATTERS MOST

I want you to understand what really matters (Philippians 1:10)

We all have an abundance of things that matter to us. What matters to one person might not matter at all to another person. More than likely, we have all been guilty of questioning the thoughts of other people about things that matter to them. Why would someone want that color of car? Why don’t they make their children behave? Why don’t they mow their yard? Ultimately, it is not really our business! So, we will just stop there and pray that we remember not to clog up our mind with things that do not need to even enter.

We know that God is interested in the things that matter to us. He cares about us. He cares about the smallest things and the really big things! God is just that way. He stuck with us when others may have thought He shouldn’t have. When I think about it, I agree that He should have quit following me around long before I knew Him. Fortunately, He is able to focus on what really matters and leave the other things behind.

He is able to keep His eye on the prize of the High calling of God in Christ Jesus. He knows that just one word from Him can grow into a wonderful harvest. He knows that our potential in Christ far outweighs any luggage we have hauled around. Lord help us to see the difference you can make in our lives as well as the lives of others.

There is a great freedom that comes from being set free from trying to figure out the lives of others! It is something that we can put to use daily. We need to realize that God is the smartest one in the room. We are not!

Of course, the first most important thing is to know God through Jesus Christ. When you look for things that really matter, He is at the top. He opens the door of our understanding to all that really matters. How is it that we can know that and still we frequently fail to practice it? We should not go one moment without that realization, and yet we might spend a day or a week or even a month without really considering how much He matters in our lives!

We can read our bible and put it down unchanged because we have more important things to consider. We can pray and not even consider the One we are praying to. There is an old hymn that says, “Take time to be Holy.” It really matters. Paul said he wanted the Philippians to be able to live pure and blameless lives until the time of Christ’s return. Is it possible to do that? Not if we don’t think it matters.

How much importance do we place on our walk with God? Walking with God is just that! We are not intended to stroll through life without Him. Just as Adam and Eve used to stroll through the garden with Him. Jesus came to show us how to do that. And then said, “This is the way; walk in it.” If we want freedom. If we want real love, peace, and joy; this is where we find it. All of the anxiety, doubts, and fears can be extinguished with the mention of His name. When those things are extinguished, we stand as a place of refuge for others to find out what really matters.
