WHAT'S INSIDE
When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. (John 14:20 NLT)
Recently I tried to put myself in the disciple’s shoes as Jesus was telling them that if they had seen Him they had also seen the Father because the Father was in Him and He was in the Father. They new the history of mountains shaking, they’d heard the voice from heaven saying He was God’s son, and now He was telling them that God was in Him. It sort of makes one shudder to think about it. Obviously the natural mind cannot comprehend such enormous things. That is why Jesus also told them that the Father would send the Holy Spirit to explain things to them. Jesus also pointed out that the works that He did really were not Him at all, rather it was the Father in Him doing the works. It just keeps getting harder to comprehend all the time.
It hit me as I read this, that He was saying this to all of us as well because Jesus said that He was going come into all who believe. He said that we would all be one, with God in Him and Him in us and us in Him. So then God is in us. Now what do we do? Isn’t it amazing that Almighty God lives in us and yet He will not over power us? In fact no matter how much we ask Him to do just that, He will not take any authority that we do not give Him. This is much unlike the devil who does all he can to control and destroy us.
So anyway, God is not only for us, He is in us and He is ready to do all that He did with Jesus and more. At least that is what Jesus said! Since Jesus does not lie, it would seem that God certainly is able to do abundantly above and beyond all that we could hope or imagine if we will only believe. Have you ever taken time to think about this? I have read this lots of times and acknowledged at least in principle that it must be true, but this time it hit me like a wakeup call. It makes we want to figure out to let Him work in me like Jesus did!
It seems to me that I must limit Him by relying on my own weakness instead of His power. If I can believe that what Jesus says is true then nothing is impossible. So then what I really need to do is concentrate on staying out of the way! See, I think we all try to figure out what we need to be doing, when in fact we simply need to believe that He is prepared even when we are not. Truly, we have nothing to do with it because we cannot do anything without Him. The disciples did not do anything when they walked through crowds and people got healed and delivered. They just went around doing what Jesus told them and the signs followed.
I think we just need to accept the fact that He is in us and that if we will be faithful to do what He says, He will do what He promised. If we love God and love one another, He can do the rest. It is not what we do, rather it is what we will believe.
