WHEN DID HE EAT?

"Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?"(John 4:33b NKJ)

Have you ever thought there were times when those guys that followed Jesus just did not have a clew? They asked some of dumbest questions! But then what do I sound like when I ask God some things that I already know the answer to? As I read this powerful passage of scripture(John chapter 4, not just verse 33!)some interesting things were brought to my understanding.

First in verse 6 we see that Jesus was weary from His journey and sat down. Sometimes I have found that people seem to think if we are really Christians we should never get tired or weary. I have heard people say that if it is really the Lords will when we are doing things we just won’t get tired. Well Jesus always did what pleased the Father. Don’t get me wrong, I have often been strengthened and refreshed as I went and did the Fathers business, but it is normal to get tired from time to time, okay!

Even though Jesus was tired, He was always tuned in to the Fathers will. No matter what He was doing, He was looking for ways to reveal the kingdom of God. Where were the disciples at this point? Well they were hungry and went to buy some food. Hey, it is okay to eat too. Yes there are things in our lives that we need to take care of. We have jobs, families, homes, and etc. But, we need to have an ear open to the Father and the Spirit’s leading no matter where we are or what we are doing.

While the disciples were off buying food, that was all they were doing. That was all they were thinking about. They were wrapped up in what they needed at that time. They may have even discussed the fact that Jesus had them so busy running around helping people that they barely had time to eat. And didn’t he know that they had other things to do sometimes. When He went off to pray was the only time they had any free time! They could not spend that time praying, they had to take care of other things. I know this is not written, but they were men just as we are. Have you ever heard or had this attitude? “Let the pastor do the praying and the studying, that is what he is paid for, we have to take care of our lives!!!”

Anyway, while they were gone, the woman came to the well and Jesus changed a whole city because He was willing to do the Father’s will, even if He was tired. He risked His reputation by talking with someone that custom said He should not. Not only did He speak with her, but humbled Himself to ask for something from her. Then He gives her the key to eternal life. He is refreshed as He shares, and rejoicing in His heart as He sees her eyes open and life change. By the time the disciples return He is filled and refreshed. But what is their take on the situation?

They can not believe that He is talking with that woman! Haven’t they learned anything yet? They are still so wrapped up in themselves and their needs that they don’t even care what it was all about. They want him to eat! They don’t even take note that she left her water pot and ran off. They want Jesus to be wrapped up in what they are. When He responds that He has food that they know not of, they don’t even ask what He is talking about. Rather they ask each other who brought Him the food. Perhaps they were around the real food so much, they had lost their appetite for it. We can learn a lesson here if we will contemplate this before God. I will leave it to you do that.(Read John Chapter 4 and ask God what is there for you)
