WHEN HE CAME
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"(Luke 2:14 NKJ)
I was talking to the Lord this morning, praising His greatness, and thinking that it was not at all crazy to praise loud and long, because He is worthy! After all, when He came, there were Angels singing loudly, shepherds abandoning their sheep, and wise men traveling and bringing gifts. There were also people who were doing nothing but praying and looking forward to His arrival. He was confirmed and affirmed by prophets and sought by kings. Some wanting to know if He was for real and others were trying to kill Him from the start! Perhaps things are not so different now.
No matter what people were looking for or expecting, when He came, He changed the world and He is still changing the world of people on a daily basis. One day He will change the whole world permanently. My friends that is exciting. We should be filled with anticipation. We should be busy with preparation. We could learn some things with a little careful observation!
We know the Angels caused quite a stir at His birth. We also know that there was a lot of excitement everywhere he went. How do you suppose people responded when miracles were taking place? He caused such a commotion when he rode into town one day that they wanted him to tell the people to quit cheering. Unfortunately, there was even excitement the day he was crucified. Then on the day He ascended to His Father, they all just stood in a daze until the angels told them to go and do what they had been told to do.
My original declaration to the Lord was that I certainly was not crazy to love to praise Him enthusiastically. In fact, I acknowledged I may be a bit subdued compared to how it should be. I have always said that we could learn something watching fans at a professional football game, or any sporting event for that matter. Those people spend days, months, and even years planning in advance for the game. They save and plan looking forward to the big game. They travel across the country and sometimes around the world to participate in the event. Money flows freely because they want to experience all they can. They will stand in heat or cold for hours getting ready; then stand for hours yelling and cheering the whole time and then when it is over they will excitedly tell others about the experience over and over. The fans can literally change the course and at times the outcome of the game simply with their enthusiasm.
Christmas is near. It is the day we celebrate the birth of Christ. Not everyone cares to see it that way. Not everyone is cheering for the same team. But those of us on His team should see everyday as an opportunity to change the outcome of the game. We should prepare excitedly, cheer long and strong, and rejoice because we know the outcome. When He came, He was destined to win and to make winners of everyone who would hear and accept His Word without exception. So yell, cheer, and make a spectacle of yourself so the whole world can see that the King is in residence in your life. Merry Christmas.
