WHERE IS YOUR CONFIDENCE

Then the Lord God called to Adam and said him, "Where are you? (Genesis 3:9)

Where is your confidence? What do you place your confidence in? Last time we looked at the general picture of where we are and the need to have an awareness of it. We simply cannot ignore where we are with God. We know that, right?

So where is our confidence? Our confidence has everything to do with where we are. Eve’s brief laps of confidence in what God said blew the door open for sin to enter God’s creation. That momentary lapse continues to produce destruction to this day! If you believe this, then you can easily see how important it is that we establish where our confidence lies.

We must be confident that God is who God says He is and that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the living and true God. Any holes that we may have in our confidence in this fact render us without faith and unable to please God. Jesus said in John 18:37 that “All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.” Are we confident that what Jesus says is true? Are we so confident in His words that we recognize that we cannot do anything without Him?

Jesus certainly would have been justified in believing that He could do a lot, and yet His confidence was so strongly place in His Father that He declared that He could do nothing without God. He assured us that we could do nothing with Him and yet He also assured us that we could do all things with Him. Are we confident of this?

John pointed out that he was confident that when he prayed, God heard Him. He went on to say that knowing this provided him with the confidence that no matter what he asked, he would receive it! He actually included us in this declaration. Is this the confidence that you have? Confidence produces results. Lack of confidence produces results as well.

Are you confident that God saves whoever calls upon the name of the Lord? Are you confident enough in this to leave it to God to decide how it works? Are you confident that there are benefits in the Kingdom of God? Are you more confident it that than in what circumstances around you say?

Paul said that He was confident that God, Who began a good work, was also able to complete that good work. Are we confident that He is the one who started things and that He is capable of finishing them? The grace (unmerited favor) of God put us in a place to receive the grace (special favor and blessing) of God. Are we confident that this is the case?

What are we most confident in? Some people have a great deal of confidence in their own abilities and that is not all bad. It does produce results, but these are limited results. Confidence in God on the other hand has no limits and with confidence in God our abilities take us to a whole new level. Just imagine where Eve could have gone had she not had a lapse in confidence in what God said. What have we lost as a result of our own lapses? Let’s put our confidence in God and see what the Lord can do!
