WHICH WAY

Life itself was in Him, and this life gives light to everyone. (John 1:4 NLT)

Okay, I am guilty as can be. I admit it and now I want to walk in the Light. What am I talking about? Well, it is like this. I have always felt that we need to incorporate Christ into every part of our lives. And in fact we should. But I have been looking at it the wrong way. Perhaps this is not the case with you, but there may be someone else who could put this to use.

The thing we all talk about is being in Christ. That tells me that I should be moving into Him and His ways and not trying to get Him to come into my ways. Do you see the difference? Which would you think is better? If your child brings you poison and asks what it is, or drinks it and you have to come and try to find out what they got into. Sure you will go to them, but it would have been better if they had come to you first.

We are often out doing things and wanting the Lord to come and be a part of it. What He wants is for us to bring it all to Him in the first place. If we will bring our lives to Him, then the things that won’t fit will be removed. If we “do” first, and then ask Him to come into what we are doing, we can spend a lot of time in things that may not in our best interest. Sometimes things that may seem very good may not be what God wants.

No one comes to Christ in perfect condition. He is the one that makes us acceptable and then continues to perfect us. The easiest way to be perfected is to abide in Him. When you go to someone’s house, you should follow their rules. If they come to your house, then you set the rules. See the difference. If we abide in Christ, then He can approve or disapprove before we head the wrong direction. On the other hand, if we get into something first and then ask God to come and take a look, we could be long way in the wrong way before we think to see what he has to say.

Many a person has headed off into something thinking that God must be leading them, only to find out that they should have double-checked. Let’s face it we can be influenced by lots of things that are not God things. That is why it is so important that we go to Christ and remain in Him rather than going our own way and asking Him to follow along and make sure everything goes right.

It may just sound like a play on words but if we give it some thought it does make sense. What do you think when you see someone hitchhiking with a big dog by their side. I think they would get a ride easier if they left the dog home. Sometimes we are kind of like that. We are standing like people on the road with a bid dog, getting mad because no one stops. We are wondering why God has not fixed things. Fortunately God is bigger than any dog, but He will wait till we bring it to Him. After all, he would not want to over ride our right to keep the dog if we want to. I hope this makes sense to someone besides me.
