WHO IS EXALTED
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.(Isaiah 14:14 NKJ)
It is true that God has called us to be holy even as He is Holy. The question is, who or what is exalted in our quest. This particular scripture is speaking of Lucifer, who not only wanted to be like the Most High, he wanted to be equal or above the Most High. The question for us as believers is, how often are we guilty of this very thing?
At the first and most personal level, how often do we put ourselves above God? When our desires do not line up with His Word and we choose our way over His, aren’t we guilty of doing this very thing. We become the most high of our lives. It is a fearful thing to realize just how much of that seed of the first Adam hangs on to us even though we are born again into new life with Christ.
When we move into the corporate level, it is easy to see how the devil can use churches as instruments of his doctrine. When we become more interested in the success of our group than we are in the Kingdom of God, we create our own kingdom. If we are willing to put down another to raise ourselves up, who is exalted? Jesus said to lift Him up and He would draw people to Himself. If we are more interested in lifting up our particular doctrine than we are in lifting up Jesus, then who is exalted. We can trust the truth, to expose the lies.
If we prefer to tell people what church we are a part of, rather than that we are Christians in love with Jesus. Who is exalted? If I, as a pastor, am more concerned for the success of , “my church,” than I am in advancing the kingdom of God. Who is exalted. If we choose doctrine over revelation, who is on the throne? Oh yes, we can all find lots of places where we have established our own thrones, and when we do, it would be wise to tear down those high places. One of my children recently found while reading the bible, that if he did not treat his siblings kindly it was a sin. As a result, he decided he better change some things.
Nothing is worth advancing, if the Lordship of Christ has to be sacrificed. If the truth of God’s word is compromised, then something is wrong. Certainly none of us have yet attained perfection, but each day is an opportunity to press toward that mark for the prize of the high call of God in Christ Jesus.
We all need to be more careful that we do not lower God’s standards in order to exalt our own. It is not important that I get my way, if it means dethroning God. I imagine that none of us would want to admit that we have at times knowingly and willingly done just that. We would be more inclined to say that we really did not mean it that way. It could be that Lucifer tried that line as well. It really is not hard to tell who we are putting on the throne, if we simply submit ourselves to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Let’s all make a commitment to keeping God on the throne and see how He will change us.
