WHOEVER CALLS
"For anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:13 NLT)
Just as everything started with a word from God, so our salvation begins with a call or and word from us. When we call on the name of the Lord our relationship with God begins. His relationship with us began long before we called. It is just too mind boggling to grasp when He actually started working on our lives, so for this we will leave it at “before we were formed in the womb.” Needless to say, He waited a long time for many of us to notice.
There is so much that God has for us, but until we begin by believing His Word, we just do not see His plan. Oh, but once we open ourselves up to the revelation of the Holy Spirit, we begin to experience true life. From there, God has a new beginning waiting around each turn. This is just one more reason that God challenges us to become as little children.
Little children view everything and everyone as something new. Some things they back away from until they understand them better, and some things they embrace immediately. As parents, we lovingly help them to adjust to what they do not know and rejoice with them at each new discovery.
God is just like that with us. He is patient when we are slow, and quick to come along side when we call or need help. When we step toward Him in trust, He runs toward us with confirmation. Have you ever had a baby give you a big smile? It melts your heart and you just want to rush in a grab them but then as you approach, their face changes and you have to come to a screeching halt? I think we do this to God quite often. We begin to walk in His truth and He is on His way with a confirmation hug when suddenly we change our minds and turn away from the new thing He is showing us. We shut the door and leave Him standing outside knocking.
Paul wrote to the Galatians and asked them what had happened to them. He wondered why after they started out so well following the guidance of the Holy Spirit, had they turned back to their own understanding. The best thing any of us can ever do is to set our hand to the plow and not look back. Too many Christians spend too much time beginning the same thing over and over again. That was what kept Israel in the wilderness. God kept bringing them to the place for the new beginning and they would take one more lap around the wilderness. After they finally arrived in the Promised Land they still spent a lot of time learning the same things over and over again.
God is patient, but the truth is we are the ones to lose out because we lose patience waiting for the God to do what He has called us to do. We begin by believing and calling. We continue by believing and calling. Something new is beginning in your life with God and you don’t want to miss it. Believe it and call on Him.
