WHY??

But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord', and do not do the things which I say?(Luke 6:46)

Why is it, that we call Jesus Lord, but then do not do what He says? Why do we, as believers, hear ourselves saying over and over, “I don’t know why I do these things, I know I shouldn’t.” Well, the Apostle Paul talked about doing what we do not want to and not doing what we should. But finally He said that Jesus would take care of that dilemma.

Jesus explained immediately after He said this, that the person who did what He said, was like a person who built a house a firm foundation, and those who heard but did nothing were like a man who built a house with no foundation what so ever. The foundation we are speaking of here is Christ.

If we are firm on the Word, established in Christ we will be inclined to do what He says. This is not legalism, it a healthy respect(fear)of the Lord. Believing that He will do what He says, causes us to desire to do what He wants us to do.

Part of the reason that we give in to our flesh, and go against what we know is right and best, is that we have accepted the idea that nobody is perfect and nobody ever will be. Granted, we are all being perfected, but God did say, you shall be perfect, even as your heavenly Father is perfect. We are also created in the image of Christ, and He was, is, and always will be perfect. Besides that, to wink at disobedience just because we will not get a perfect score everyday, would be like a student not bothering to answer any questions on a test, just because they knew they would not get them all right anyway.

Is it really so difficult to do what He asks? He tells us clearly that what He asks is not a burden. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. So why do we call Him Lord and not do as He says? Pure and simple, it is because we do not want to!! We want do what we want to. When it is convenient we will do what He wants, but if it is not, well God will just have to understand. It is time we disposed of this philosophy and took up a new one.

First, we must acknowledge the fact that God wants us to do what He says all the time. We need to repent of our selfish attitudes. Then we need to commit ourselves to pleasing Him, even if it does not please us. He knows best!

Then we must rid ourselves of the idea that God winks at our disobedience.(That is like believing the highway patrol will wave after he clocks you at 100mph.) We need to expect Him to work wonders of perfection in our lives and through our lives every moment. Because of this, we want to be obedient so we are prepared. God does not want to do this in just a few, rather He wants to do it in everyone who establishes themselves on the solid Rock of Jesus Christ.

If we do not do this, we will never experience all that God has in store for us.
