WHY ARGUE

"And since God gave these Gentiles the same gift He gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to argue?" (Acts 11:17 NLT)

I am trying to think as I begin this just how often arguing produces any good fruit. I am certain there are situations where discussions turn to arguments over the right thing to do or the right direction to turn, but that is not what I want to address here. I want to know why we bother to argue with God? We may not see it as arguing with God, but when we fail to trust what He says, we are in fact choosing to argue with Him. No matter what our circumstances may be, God has the best way already planned, don’t argue with Him.

In the case of Peter speaking to the gentiles, he was going cross-wise with all that he previously believed and what everyone he knew believed. They wanted to argue about this in a big way. Peter’s response was that God had confirmed it as a good thing and since God approved, who was he to argue.

If it is in God’s word, why would we want to argue? When we talk about sowing and reaping and giving and receiving and Gods promised blessings, why would anyone want to argue? When we talk of healing and deliverance and gifts of the spirit or any other thing that God says, why would anyone want to argue? Why not do what God challenges us to do instead. He said we should always allow Him to prove Himself.

Most times we argue because we never looked at it that way. Even when the Word of God makes things perfectly clear, sincere people will argue just because it is not what they have been taught. My advice to all of us is that we allow the Holy Spirit teach us.

Anytime that something produces an argument, stop and see what the Bible says and pray about it. Peter argued with God when God first told him to kill and eat in his vision. God settled that quickly by telling him not to call anything that He has approved unclean. Based on what God said, Peter moved in a different direction.

How willing are we to allow God to guide us. I have found that there are many people who would much rather argue than simply trust God. Personally, I really do not like to argue. Oh yes I end up arguing at times, but seldom will I argue over what God says. I truly believe that He is able to guide me and if He can guide me, then He can guide others as well. Jesus told us that we should expect the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth.

We must always be open to God’s direction if we ever hope to experience the fullness of God. Why argue against the truth? Why not seek truth, and pursue it just as we are to seek peace and pursue it. Real peace is found only in the Prince of Peace Who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Don’t argue against something just because it is new or different. Jesus came to show us a different way, and praise God He did. Open the eyes of our hearts, Lord. Open the eyes of our hearts.
