WILL WE?

...At the name of Jesus every knee should bow...and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.(Philippians 2:10a & 11 NKJ)

I know that many Christians, myself included, have referred to this verse with a longing for that day when everyone has to bow to the Lord. We even tend to gloat a bit over the idea at times. But as I prayed this morning and declared how great the Name of God is, and how everything in all creation must submit to His Name, the Holy Spirit nudged me and the question came, “what about you?”

The more I considered this, the more I realized that every knee and every tongue most certainly includes mine. Do I bow to the will of God. When Jehovah Shalom is present, do I submit to His peace, or do I go on with my anger. When my healer is present do I continue to declare my sickness. Well, you can imagine the rest of the list.

Oh yes, we all want everyone to bow to God. But will we? When God commands that we love our enemies, will we. When He says forgive, or give, or go or stay, will we? When He says don’t worry, will we stop. When He says fear not, will we stand fearless?

Truly God has given Jesus a Name above every name. Will we submit ourselves to His Lordship. There are a lot of “those people” who we all look forward to seeing bow and confess Christ, who are wondering when they will see someone who will set an example. They really don’t care to hear our words when they have already seen that our actions are far from those of a person who is bowing to the Name of the Almighty.

It is not just the confession of our mouth that God is looking for, it is the submission of ourselves to Him. It is us choosing what He says and who He is over everything else. He wants us to believe every word that proceeds out of His mouth. This is how true life is found. This is the abundant life that Jesus came to bring us.

Remember when even the wind and waves obeyed Jesus. The disciples said, “what manner of man is this, that even the wind and sea obey Him?” He was and is the Christ and we are His followers. He was our example. He believed totally in what the Father said and what the Father showed Him. He bowed to the wishes of His Father and great was His reward.

He proved that He would rather die than go against the Fathers will. Will we? Will we die to our doubts, fears, and rebellion, so that others might live? Will we live by the authority that is in the Name of Jesus? Oh Lord…Your will be done.
