WITNESSING

"Nazareth! Can anything good come from Nazareth?" Philip Answered, "Come and see." (John 1:46 ERV)

Is telling people about Jesus really so hard? It is if we feel like it is our sentence for being a Christian! It is if we feel like we have to in order to be saved! However, if we realize that Jesus told us we would be witnesses everywhere we went, we might just relax and really consider the idea.

It is not up to the teachers to be the witnesses, but of course they will be. It is not just certain people; rather it is every believer who Jesus said would be witnesses.

What if we considered that the favor of God on our lives would be a great witness to others? That of course would cause us to expect and recognize His favor ourselves before we could expect others to.

I really believe that Jesus intended to be so involved in our lives that we would be continually revealing Him to the world around us. As a result, some would feel called to go to their neighbors and others to the nations of the world; all at His direction and not on some whim we may have or that someone else has put upon us.

First and foremost, we are called to love and know God. His light in us will shine. We are called to let that light shine, not mask it or shade it or put in under a basket.

Remember, we are witnessing to His greatness, not ours. We are revelations of His perfection, not ours. I am not perfect. He is. I know that He is perfecting me. Don’t judge His perfection by my imperfections. I know He is faithful. I trust Him. He can help. He will help. He is wonderful. Check Him out! All I know is that He changed my life!

These are a just a few very short things we can say in the course of a day to any number of people that will give them opportunity to consider the true and living God. A friend once simply told me I should check Jesus out some day. Another person asked if I ever sang gospel music. The doors of opportunity are open; we simply need to look for them.

We don’t hunt like a hunter in the woods ready to strike; we just need to be observant. There are lonely, hurting, uncertain people everywhere that Jesus can and will help, if we will help them see.

Don’t shut this opportunity out of your life. Don’t take that lid out of your pocket and screw it on to keep you from considering the fact that if you know Him, you can expect opportunities to arise. When they arise, you can expect God to confirm His word. As you see this you will become more confident in Him and realize that He qualifies you and empowers you to be a witness. There is no greater joy than the joy that comes from giving Jesus and real hope to someone in need.
