WON'T GOD
Since God did not spare even His own Son but gave Him up for us all; won't God, Who gave us Christ, also give us everything else? (Romans 8:32 NLT)
“Won’t you please help?” Have you ever had anyone ask you this question? Have you ever helped a stranger? Have you ever helped someone that you really did not want to help? Are there some people it would be very difficult to say no to? More than likely you can answer yes to each of these questions. When you read the scripture for this devotion was your first thought “Of course He will”, or was your fist thought, “This is going to be another one of those words about expecting God to bless you?”
Have you ever wondered why it is so hard for us to treat God like our Father? My children are pretty well taken care of, but they never hesitate to ask for what they want. They may spend some time considering how to get the request in, but ultimately they will ask! If it is important enough to them they will ask often!
Our attitude should be as the scripture says, since God gave us Jesus, won’t He also give us everything else? I believe we are all guilty of thinking of all the reasons God might not, would not, or should not help us. Recently I have been spending more time considering why He should and why I should believe that, above everything else.
Take Moses. He understood that his whole mission was God’s idea! Since it was God’s idea, Moses felt it was only reasonable for God to take care of His plan. The same can be said of all the prophets. It was also true for Jesus when He came to the earth. It was God’s plan and He trusted God to do everything necessary. He did not think it was too much to expect God to feed five thousand men and their families at once. He did not think it was unreasonable to ask God to raise the dead and heal every disease. Jesus, along with the other heroes of the Bible, simply believed God.
Do you realize that we are part of God’s plan too? Jesus said in John chapter 15 that He was the one responsible for us. We did not choose Him! He chose us with a plan in mind. He never intended that we run the company. He is the head, and He is responsible for us all. It is up to Him to see that we have everything we need to accomplish the plan.
When a person is brought on a team in the natural, the company provides the necessary tools to allow the person to succeed. An athlete on a team is provided with coaching, a facility to work out in, transportation, lodging, and the necessary equipment to succeed. It is the responsibility of the owners to provide everything the athlete needs.
God is greater than any company head, or any team owner. Our part is to present ourselves to Him. His part is to see that we have all we need to shine His light. When our children wonder, or when the world wonders “Won’t God help”, what is our answer going to be? Jesus said, “Ask, seek, and knock.” Why is it so hard for us to just believe He meant what He said?
