WORK AT BEING HOLY

Work at living in peace with everyone and work at living a holy life.

Work at living a holy life! How do we do that? As you may or may not know, to be holy is to set apart for and to God. It is simply putting God in His proper place.

We work for years going to school. Some of it we like, some of it we do not. We work hours every day in order to live. At least we should if we can. We spend time on hobbies and all sorts of other things, and of course these things are all temporary.

So, is it too much for God to ask us to work at being Holy? The thing about holiness is that we can work on it all the time in all the things we do.

Considering God as we go through life only makes sense. Ephesians 4:31 tells us to get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words and slander as well as all types of evil behavior. That sounds like, on the job training. After all, we are challenged to do everything heartily as unto the Lord.

When we work at being holy, we are not earning our salvation. It is a natural result of our salvation. Holy Spirit is always guiding us toward that. We should see daily opportunities to grow. When we see them, we should take them!

God promised to be with us, guiding us into all truth. The truth is, sometimes we fall short of our call. Sometimes we let up. Sometimes the Holy Spirit says, “This not for you.” But we pretend there is static on the line, and we press on with our own way. When we realize what we are doing, we simply need to turn around. That is working at being holy!

Romans reminds us to stop conforming and let God do the transforming. It is our choice! Yes, we get to choose. But we need to realize what we lose when we fail to follow what we know is right.

Following Christ is a lifestyle. It is not just for certain people; it is for all who call themselves Christians. We all want the benefits, so we all must participate. Participation is a lot more than going to church when it is convenient. If that is all we do, we miss so many blessings every day.

We miss the joy of sharing how good God is with people we see and interact with. We miss the presence of God when we pray for someone who needs prayer. We miss the fullness of God as we consider the great things He has allowed us to be a part of.

Jesus told the disciples that they would receive power to go and tell everyone the good news. God is good news. This may be old news to you. You might know all of this and more. If so, it is a reminder and challenge that we can all grow.

The more I grow, the more I see the need to grow and to go more. Holiness is life-giving work. It gives us life, and it shares life with others.
