YOU CAN SAY

"I assure you that you can say to this mountain, --'May God lift you up and throw you into the sea', and your command will be obeyed. All that is required is that you really believe and do not doubt in your heart."(Mark 11:23a NLT)

If you say something, can people count on you meaning what you say? I think we would all like to be considered people of our word. Unfortunately this is not always the case with all people. In fact, in this day an age, people are becoming more and more inclined not to trust what people say. It is even more unfortunate that many have allowed this attitude to effect what they will believe concerning the Word of God.

Have you ever heard someone say, “You can say whatever you want, but I still don’t believe it?” I have heard people say that about a lot of different things, so I guess I should not be surprised when they say that concerning what God says. There are times when people see God act with their own eyes and still choose not to believe it. But again, this is really nothing new. Jesus told the people over and over again who He was and they did not want to believe Him, so they didn’t.

Much of what we do with the word of God is controlled by what we want or what we prefer. If we don’t want what God says, or if it does not fit in with what we are comfortable with, we are most likely to simply ignore it or even worse we may go so far as to resist it. We really must be careful not to do this. It is one thing to miss it for ourselves, but it is quite another if we should resist to the point of causing someone else to miss it!

In this passage of scripture, the disciples had just noticed that a fig tree that Jesus cursed one day was dried up from the roots the next. When they pointed this out to Jesus He was not surprised. Basically He told them they could say anything with faith in God and it would be done accordingly. He said, “If you say to this mountain.”

It takes more than a little faith to talk to a mountain. Whether it is a physical mountain, or a mountain in our lives, it just does not feel natural to talk to it! Well, the good news is that it is not natural. It is supernatural! When we speak to the mountain, we are releasing the power of the Holy Spirit to accomplish God’s will. Of course if we don’t say anything we can’t expect anything to happen.

Let’s face it we all “say” lots of things and a number of those things are not productive at all. We all waste words and say words that we wish we would not have said. What have we got to lose by putting God’s word to the test and saying what He says? Take a supernatural step and speak to that mountain expecting God to do what He says He will do. He says we can say, so let’s start saying!
