YOU MUST TRUST

All of you worship the Lord, so you must trust Him to help and protect you.(Psalm 115:11CEV)

If you think about it, it is pretty hard to figure how we could say we love and worship someone that we really do not trust. We may have acquaintances that we don’t trust, but it is no fun to have someone close that we can’t trust! We obviously know that the Lord is trustworthy; but do we trust Him. Does He have to prove Himself over and over to us, or is who He is, enough.

Do we know His character well enough to simply trust that He never lies or fails? Will He do what He says or not? Does our trusting Him have anything to do with what He does? His word says that those who trust in Him are blessed. Yes there are times when we need to tell ourselves that we are blessed because He says so and not because we are feeling so blessed at the time, but it is worth it.

I had been meditating on this particular verse in Psalms before I went out for a run. I came to a certain place in the run and decided that I needed to walk, but when I started to walk the Lord told me I did not need to walk. Well I started running again telling Him that He would have to give me the strength to finish! He said He would and then reminded me that I had been praying for our son in all of the military training he is in right now and that I was asking God to get Him through it. He informed me that if I trusted him to help my son, I should trust Him to help me.

Well that was simple enough. To be honest, I was sort of thinking that I was going to get a burst of energy. I was hoping that I would suddenly be running like I did fifteen or twenty years ago, but really there was nothing like that. I simply kept running, and as I did, I understood that I was trusting for each step and one step at a time I finished the run and finished well, but it sure did not feel like I was carried by angels!

In Isaiah God tells us that He will strengthen us and uphold us. He will even carry us! Well, like I said, God did not carry me, but He did teach me something about trusting Him. It would have been fun to fly through the run and do a Rocky dance at the end, but it was perhaps more wonderful to be reminded that He was with me every step of the way even if it was still hard. He never said He would make everything easy, but oh the joy of having Him always with us.

Why can’t He just give us His strength all the time? There surely are times of supernatural strength and wonderful manifestations of His power, but there are also times when His comfort and guidance simply take us along as we go, strengthened by our faith and trust in Him.

He is so good. We must trust Him. We must love, praise, and adore Him. He is so faithful. Isn’t He just wonderful? Don’t you just want to shout Praises to Him right now? Oh, and remember, He won’t forget to bless those who trust Him!
