TRUE

"What is truth?" Pilot asked. Then he went out to the people and told them, "He is not guilty of any crime." (John 18:38 NLT)

This was really a great question that Pilot asked and immediately after asking it, he expressed the truth. Jesus was not guilty of any crime. His accusers, however, did not see it that way. In their eyes Jesus was guilty. What we see as truth and what is actually true can be and often is two very different things. This is why we are continually admonished in scripture to know the truth and hold on to it.
Jesus told Pilate that everyone who loved the truth knew that what He said was true. You see, we really must have a passionate relationship with the truth of God’s Word. If it is negotiable in any way at any point, then we can be easily deceived. Scripture is only open to the revelation of the Holy Spirit, and if we decide to make it fit our personal preference we will only deepen our bondage.
Jesus pointed out that when we abide in Him and His Word abides in us, then we will know the truth and the truth will make us free. It is for freedom that He set us free, but without the truth we are never really free. Pilot told the truth, but then was not free to really do the right thing. He was a people pleaser. He still had Jesus whipped and did not let Him go.
It is in fact liberating when we submit to the truth. How many times in our lives did God open our eyes to the truth before we finally submitted to it? Before we were saved, we knew we fell short of the knowledge of God. We knew deep down that we sinned. But we resisted yielding to the only truth that could make us free. The truth is I think that many come to God for salvation without really seeing themselves as sinners in need of changed lives, but rather as people who would prefer to go heaven rather than hell.
How many people call themselves Christians but believe that the Bible is not really the Word of God, but rather that is contains some of God’s words? How dangerous is that? This leaves people believing what they want to believe and free to discount what they do not.
In order for us to go on the offensive for ourselves, others, and especially for the Kingdom of God, we must believe the truth that only God is true. We must be determined to change to fit His word and not try to change His word to fit us. When we are convinced of the life changing power of the Word of God, then we can be convinced of the power of God’s promises for us. Over and over, God reminds us in His word to hold fast to the truth and what is true. Promises are poured out for those who love the truth. Freedom is guaranteed for those seek the truth. This is all true and it is for you and for me. Grab it.
